Writers’ Interactive Exercise #1

You have awakened for the last time to full consciousness. Opening your eyes, a shining countenance comes into focus, leaning over you. As you begin to open your mouth to speak, the entity says, “Hush. Listen to me. Before you speak, you need to understand that you are dying. It is happening now. You have only nine breaths left in you— enough breath left to utter only nine words. These will be the last words you ever speak; your dying words…your last words to be left behind. Choose them well. The time is here. Speak them now.”

What were your last nine words?

Directions: You must use exactly nine words. No more. No less. Post them in the comment box below.

  1. It will be there whenever ready. As Neil Gaiman says, “This is how you do it: you sit down at the keyboard and put one word after another until it’s done. It’s that easy, and that hard.”
